4D databases is the database
system that many professional database developers use to create
custom applications. 4D can be summarised as a database containing
all of the best features of Filemaker and Access with a whole load
of extras added on top. 4D is programmable via its own 'Pascal'
type programming language, and can be compiled for extra speed (FileMaker
Pro and Access are both interpreted databases).
Databases created in 4D can be bound so that the client
does not need to purchase a user licence. 4D comes as both Mac,
PC, and server versions. Instant web publishing is a standard feature
that can be enhanced with Lasso middleware.
