Filemaker Pro have been business
software of the year several times. It is the most popular / most
purchased database system in the world. Whilst it has a very
low learning curve (compared to Access and 4D), it is a very sophisticated
relational database with an amazing number of third party plug-ins
that fill every requirement hole not filled by Filemaker Inc. Filemaker
databases can be bound so that the client does not even need to
purchase a user licence. FileMaker Pro comes as both Mac, PC, and
Palmtop versions. Filemaker Server is even being run on Redhat Linux.
Instant web publishing is a yet another standard feature that can
be enhanced with Lasso middleware to create an easy to use web databases
system.
In spite of the low learning curve and price FileMaker
Pro cannot be considered a simple database. Its' web capabilities
and excellent graphic control make it a prime choice for many 'off-the-shelf'
products. For example, the business management system 'Valiano'
by Fujifilm-ISIG is a Filemaker Pro project that comes in several
versions including a bound standalone FileMaker Pro application
and a web server version.
